If you don't know how to use backlinks effectively to rank higher in the search engines, you have a serious problem if you intend on Google sending you a nice flow of traffic. Because it simply won't happen. But search engine optimization doesn't have to be rocket science, if that's what you've been thinking.
Before I give you some help with one of the most crucial parts of successful search engine marketing, here are some of the basics about backlinks, where to find them online and what are quality backlinks.
Backlinks is the term used for inbound links to a website or a page of that website. And a search engine will determine the importance of a website, by the number and quality of backlinks pointing to any given page (along with several other factors). While search engines will use a number of factors to determine the value of a backlink, such as if it came from a Government site or highly related content website, it doesn't have to be so difficult to slowly (if you do it quickly, it will have a detrimental effect on your sites rankings) build a list of inbound links to a website.
And when the search engine spiders see that other websites and articles on forums are linking back to a site, they see this as people valuing the content of that site. In the early days of internet marketing, this was more obvious. Don't ever forget, that the engines know about every link building strategy there is. If they don't, they will know by tomorrow!
Ok, so how do we start generating links back to your website? The one and only greatest method to get inbound links (in my opinion) is to write high quality content on your website, because when you give people something of high value, they will want to come back to it and even share it. Build a bridge with people, solve a problem for them, provide them with knowledge which they never knew before. And by answering their questions, they will come back to your website over and over again. Quality content is king!
You want people to find your website easily and be happy to stay there and read a couple of pages. This is the reason you built the website, remember - to keep people coming back and repeat buying your products. When the search engines see a link pointing from one site to your own, it is a natural progression for them to send their spiders or crawlers over to your own site, this is their preferred way of indexing a webpage. In laymen's terms, this means you are not entering your site to the search engines yourself, but it is done automatically when they see it has 'link juice' from other relevant content.
And finding places where to get quality links is fairly easy, but it takes time! I prefer article marketing and submitting content to blog networks, but there are also a number of tools like Market Samurai (see my website), which are free that seek out places to link from.
With article marketing, you get the link juice from the article itself and also you may find your articles being used on other websites, creating extra links for you! I see this every day - and you can't beat getting links for free!
Other sources are blog comments, bookmarking sites like Digg and also RSS feeds. You can also use Web 2 sites like Hubpages and Squidoo - all top places to leave your signature. Go to my site and look for a great tool, called Backlink Battleplan which will teach you all you need to know about backlinking.
The most
effective link building strategy online is easy to learn, but it is complex and will increase your search engine optimization results. Understanding SEO and effective link building will bring more search engine traffic to your website.
