When you want to increase the daily volume of traffic to your website, you must know everything you can learn about backlinking. Because you could get stuck without learning these skills. But search engine optimization doesn't have to be rocket science, if that's what you've been thinking.

But first lets explain a little bit about the fundamentals of link building, before I give you a couple of tips.

Backlinks is the term used for inbound links to a website or a page of that website. Along with many other crucial components of link building, search engines will determine the authority of a website by the amount of quality backlinks pointing back to it. While search engines will use a number of factors to determine the value of a backlink, such as if it came from a Government site or highly related content website, it doesn't have to be so difficult to slowly (if you do it quickly, it will have a detrimental effect on your sites rankings) build a list of inbound links to a website.

Whether it be from blog commenting, articles, forums or videos a backlink is going to suggest to the search engines that people value the content on a website, hence the reason they have linked to it. In the early days of internet marketing, this was more obvious. Search engines like Yahoo and Bing, know all about link building - in fact they have some of the worlds experts working for them. If they don't, they will know by tomorrow!

So how do you build a list of quality backlinks? The one and only greatest method to get inbound links (in my opinion) is to write high quality content on your website, because when you give people something of high value, they will want to come back to it and even share it. Build a good reputation with your visitors and online followers by giving them what they want - answers, and knowledge about how to get something they want. And by answering their questions, they will come back to your website over and over again. Great content, which people like to read always comes out on top.

You want people to find your website easily and be happy to stay there and read a couple of pages. This is why you took the time to create it in the first place. When the search engines see a link pointing from one site to your own, it is a natural progression for them to send their spiders or crawlers over to your own site, this is their preferred way of indexing a webpage. Thus your site is entering the search engines, not by your own doing but from the links which point to it.

There are a number of ways to find quality backlinks. A number of tools do the job easily for you, like Market Samurai (you can try this for free on my website - just click the banner), but along with many other marketers, article backlinking is my preference because it serves as two ways to get links (again, providing you submit quality content).

With article marketing, you get the link juice from the article itself and also you may find your articles being used on other websites, creating extra links for you! It happens for me on a regular basis.

Other sources are blog comments, bookmarking sites like Digg and also RSS feeds. They are all great places to get links. Search my website for Backlinking and you'll read all about this.

The most effective link building strategy online is easy to learn, but it is complex and will increase your search engine optimization results.
